I am Your Piñata and Other Paintings of Love and Sacrifice

I Am Your Piñata — Gary Baseman’s third solo show — presented a series of new work designed to stir things up. Exploring a host of topics addressing human frailties, this series acknowledges the complexity of relationships (romantic and otherwise) and the inherent emotional challenges that come with it. Baseman dares you to “whack my piñata,” and does so with great enthusiasm. The exhibition demonstrates the artist’s acceptance of being a willing participant for collective amusement as he explores and exposes his own personal frailty, nakedness, and insecurity to help learn small truths about himself and the human condition.
