Blackie the Cat

Blackie the Cat adopted Gary Baseman in 2006 when the artist moved into his Los Angeles neighborhood. Living through a painful transition in his personal life, Blackie provided much-needed comfort, offering positive healing energy through his “triple purr.” Baseman and Blackie the Cat have collaborated on several projects together, including the creation of ChouChou and Ahwroo (shown through fine art exhibitions, toys, and performances), the sound bath installation The Purr Room, “The Blackie the Cat Show,” and a book about Blackie’s family and ancient war against the red “elifants.”
