Memento Moa at Taupo Museum
Memento Moa is now open through December 10, 2024 at the Taupo Museum in Aotearoa New Zealand.
Author Illustrator Donovan Bixley (in photo below, with Gary Baseman) attended the opening reception September 27, 2024 of Memento Moa, and raved on Instagram “I’d known Gary’s work since I was at art school.… His work really appeals to me with its vibrant colours, the playfulness and dozens of quirky characters – it’s the type of thing I like to create in my Looky Books … there’s always something new to discover each time you look. It’s an exhibition that will really appeal to children and I know my granddaughter will just love it. Of course art loving adults with an inner child will love it too … just ask Andrew Adamson (director of the Shrek and Narnia movies) who had come to see the exhibition opening in Taupõ last night.”
Youth have been encouraged to see the show about migration, memory, and mortality through Kea Kids News of the New Zealand Herald. Check out this interview HERE with reporter Mackenzie Meihana, who closes her 4-minute feature: “Thanks, Gary, for showing how art can help us say good-bye to our loved ones,.”
