Help LA artists impacted by the fires
Dear Friends,
WE LOVE LA.
Los Angeles is where Gary Baseman was born and raised, where his displaced family landed. It’s where most of us at Baseman Studio live and work and benefit from its rich resources of creative talent, ingenuity, and openness. LA welcomes dreamers.
It’s been more than a week since the fires in Los Angeles County broke out, and today there are still 82,400 people under evacuation orders, and 90,400 under evacuation warnings. Over 8000 fire fighters and first responders continue to battle the Palisades and Eaton Fires. Smaller fires have various levels of containment. We share these numbers because they’re real numbers. We do our best to keep ourselves informed with trusted sources, filtering out the noise of speculation and hate.
Today we’re spreading the word about the GRIEF AND HOPE GoFundMe campaign that aims to raise $500,000 to provide direct support to artists and art workers who have lost their homes or studios.
We know and trust the nonprofit art organization The Brick (formerly LAXART) that has partnered with the team of artists (Kathryn Andrews, Andrea Bowers, Olivia Gauthier, Julia V. Hendrickson, and Ariel Pittman) who are spearheading this important initiative.
Please consider donating HERE. A little help goes a long way.
LA is our home. Our arts community is vibrant, dynamic, and globally influential. We may be grieving, but our community is resilient.
To everyone impacted, our hearts are with you. To all, please stay safe.
